Families,

It was such a fun week here at The Ridge. We started off the week celebrating our November Students of the Month, and we ended it with a great pep assembly! And in between all of that we had Spirit Week dress up days as well. These are great weeks and I hope your student enjoyed them!

Next week, as we start to head toward Winter Break, we will be having one more awesome tradition that we do here called Bounce. If your student has never experienced Bounce, this will be a fun day for them! Even with all the fun stuff going on, I also know we have got some important academic things coming up as well, with benchmarks as well as the end of the semester a month away.

Lastly, I want to shout out our awesome Raider Robotics team! (team pic on right) I got the pleasure of watching part of their first competition of the year this past weekend at Bellarmine Prep. All the students did an amazing job and it was so fun to see all the hard work they put in to get ready for this. Huge thank you to Mr. Booth and all our parents that helped out with this!

Have a great weekend and I am looking forward to a great last week before the break!

Raider Staff Spotlight 🔦

Each week we will feature two staff members at Ridgetop so that families get to know OUR Raider family better.

Staff Spotlight (Mrs. Ezzell)

What is your role at Ridgetop?
 - Office Manager

What is the coolest thing on your bucket list?
- In July my husband and I completed a fantastic bucket list trip to the United Kingdom. It started out with two weeks in England, visiting small villages and staying in quaint bed and breakfasts. The last two weeks of our trip were to Scotland and Ireland. We were able to see lots of castles, amazing landscapes and met friendly locals.

What is your favorite holiday tradition?
- My favorite holiday tradition is making spritz cookies with the family while listening to Christmas music.

Which fictional family would you most like to join? Why?
- A fictional family I would like to join would be the Parr family. How cool would it be to be a part of an "Incredible" superhero family!

Tell us how you either LEARN, LEAD, or GROW in your life, in your personal life or as an educator.
- I am continuing to grow in my personal life as a first time grandma. I love to help my daughter find ways to support and challenge my grandson with his learning and exploration of new activities.

Kidzz Helping Kidzz Toy Drive 🧸

**This is the last week for this. Toys need to be turned in by Thursday! Thank you for all the toys we have received so far!

Would you like to brighten the holiday season for a child in the hospital? Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy to our Annual Toy Drive to support Kidzz Helping Kidzz. To learn more about where donation goes, please visit these links:

New Before School Routine 🚶🏽‍♂️

We have noticed with over 830 students this year, our school can be very crowded in the morning before school starts. We are going to be starting a new routine for students when they come back from the break. They are going to learn more about it in Advocacy this week as well.

Students will have one of three options.
  • Eat breakfast (Once you are done eating, you should do one of the following below.)
  • Walk the halls
  • Go to their 1st pd class IF their teacher is there and is letting students in.

Students should not sit outside class doors or congregate in the pods/halls.

The library will also be a quiet, tech free space for students before school. Please click here to see our new Library Expectations for the before school time frame.

This new procedure will start on the Monday we come back from break and will be in effect from the time we open the halls to students at 7:05 till 7:20 when the first bell rings.

Military Family Life Counselor Introduction 🎖️

**We have the awesome opportunity to have a Military Family Life Counselor (MFLAC) at our school that gets to work and support our military students. Below is an introduction to Jackie, who is our MFLAC this year.

Jackie is our full time MFLC at Ridgetop Middle School. MFLCs provide confidential, free, non-medical counseling support for military-connected students and families.

Jackie joined the CK MFLC program this Fall and has been a welcome addition to our school-based community resources. She is a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and earned her master's degree in School Counseling from Gonzaga University. Prior to joining the MFLC program, Jackie worked in school-based counseling roles for over ten years.

Outside of work, Jackie enjoys exploring the outdoors, skiing and curling up with a good book during the Winter months.

SPACE IS AVAILABLE IN WEEKLY MFLC GROUPS!

Groups increase students' resiliency skills to address:
  • Stress management
  • Social & emotional challenges
  • Time management and more!

Sign and return a parent consent form!
MFLCs also offer individualized support for military-connected students and families. The Parent Consent form is available on our CK Military resource page (link below) and can be returned to the MFLC at school. For additional information or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Jackie at (360) 801-9123.

We’re Hiring: Assistant Wrestling Coaches!

Assistants will work alongside our new Head Coach, Coach AJ, to help support athletes, build their skills, and foster confidence, grit, and sportsmanship.
We are hoping to hire before winter break since the season starts as soon as students return.

December Focus

This year, every month we are going to have a specific character focus that we are working on as a school. For the month of September, we are focusing on Professional Student. Each week, we will be focusing on different aspects of being a professional student.

For the month of December, we are focusing on compassion. We are working on caring for others and being able to support others in our Raider Family.

Winter Break Field Trips for Military Students

If you have a military student, there are a couple of fun field trips happening over the winter break. If you are interested in attending, below are links to the forms. Please be advised they have to be turned in by 12/15 to the Teen Center on base. I apologize these are coming so late, but we just got these today. Thank you.

After School Homework Help 📚

Just a couple of reminders for students that are planning to attend this:

  • Please try to pick up your student no earlier than 3:45
  • Students should stay in the library the whole time to work on homework and get support.

Thank you! We are glad so many students are starting to utilize this resource.

Would you like to be an Adult Mentor for our students? 🙋🏼‍♂️

Ridgetop is in need of adult mentors. All it takes is 1 hour per week to make a difference in a student's life. The goal of the mentoring program is to develop positive relationships between schools and students, parents, and community.  All mentors receive training on how to support students with goal setting, and peer relationships.

Mentoring takes place on school property. Mentors may play board games, draw, practice flashcards, read, discuss grades and study habits, or just spend time talking. If this sounds like something you can do, please get in contact with our building coordinator Jeff Kahler@ jeffreyk@ckschools.org. Adult mentors make a huge difference in a youth's life.
