Families,

What a great start to the year! We were excited to welcome our students back for another great year of learning and growth. The start is always one of my favorite parts of the year. I love getting to meet our new students, and getting the opportunity to catch up with our students who have been here before. It’s a fresh start, a time for hope, and to give our students a solid foundation for the year ahead.

This year our focus is really about learning, leading, and growing. While learning is a natural part of school, leading and growing are characteristics that may not always show up in tangible ways in middle school. Our hope as we go throughout this year is that we present opportunities for our students to not only learn, but to lead, and grow as a person and as a learner. Then, we want to ensure that we celebrate that growth as we go through the year.

As you may know, one of our district goals is to ensure safe and welcoming learning environments. I want our families to know that is also one of my top priorities as principal as well. Having two boys myself who are in school, I fully understand as a parent, the need for a safety and ensuring school is a welcoming place. I’ve asked our staff to start the year by clearly communicating the high standards, high expectations, and high accountability we have for all students. You can support this work by talking with your child about your own expectations for their behavior at school and the importance of treating others with respect here at school.

I am really excited for the year ahead and I am looking forward to the learning, leading, and growing that will be happening here at Ridgetop this year. Have a great weekend!

September Focus 👨‍🎓

This year, every month we are going to have a specific character focus that we are working on as a school. For the month of September, we are focusing on Professional Student. Each week, we will be focusing on different aspects of being a professional student. For this first full week our focus is going to be around organization. This will be a great way to set the foundation for the year ahead!

Student Handbook 📕

Here is a link to the Student Handbook. This handbook has our expectations for our students here at Ridgetop.

We reviewed this with students this week along with going over our common area (bathroom, hallways, cafeteria) expectations with students. Please feel free to take a few mins to go through this to familiarize yourself with our expectations for our students.

Drop Off and Pick up 🚗

As we enter a new school year, one of the things that I really want to stress is our drop off and pick up process.

Please ensure that if you are dropping off and/or picking up your student that you go into our parking lot area to do this. There will be two lanes of traffic as you drive through. Please remind your student to use the cross walk as they are crossing the bus lane to get in and out of school. If you are wanting to park and wait for your student, you can do so on the side parking lot. Please make sure to park in a stall and not along the road.

Please do not drop off students on Hillsboro Dr as that interrupts the flow of traffic for those that are driving through and can be very unsafe. Also, please do not drop students off in the bus lane area as busses come in and out of that area.

Roof Under Construction 🏗️

As some of you may know, our building is in the process of getting a new roof!! We are so excited to hopefully not have to deal with the random leaks that happen. But, with any construction project, it is taking a little longer than anticipated. From what I understand, the roof won't be complete before the school year starts. This shouldn't impact students as the construction company will be in the "finishing" stage of the project.
